Kingfisher cruises past Dutch in third straight semifinal win

By

Kingfisher’s third straight trip to the Class 4A state title took an almost anti-climactic route through the semifinals.

The Jackets were never challenged Friday when they downed sixth-ranked Holland Hall 58-32 at State Fair Arena.

The Dutch, hurt by injuries earlier in the playoffs, had no answer for Kingfisher’s defense, which was a repeat of Thursday’s quarterfinal and sign of more things to come in Saturday’s championship.

KHS limited Holland Hall to just 11 first-half points and led by 22 points at the halftime break.

The lead grew to 30 points by the end of the third quarter.

The Dutch shot just 29 percent (13 of 45) for the game.

Meanwhile, Kingfisher was 23 of 45 (51 percent) overall.

Leading the way was sophomore Matt Stone, who scored 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting.

He also grabbed three rebounds.

Trey Green chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.

Bijan Cortes had eight points, three assists and two steals while Reece Lafferty contributed six points and three steals.

Jett Sternberger scored five points and led the team with five boards.

Brock Davis paced the Dutch with 11 points and eight rebounds.
