Snodgrass qualifies for 4 events at state for second straight year
For the second straight year, Scout Snodgrass has qualified for four events at the state track meet.
Snodgrass helped Kingfi sher to a fourth-place finish at Saturday’s Class 4A regional meet at Chisholm.
Snodgrass once again is a state qualifier in both the 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, the 3,200 meter relay and the 1,600 meter relay.
The junior medaled in all four events at the regional as KHS racked up 82 points.
Douglass was the regional champion with 124 points.
Elk City was the runner- up with 98 and Weatherford third with 84.
To automatically qualify for state, competitors must finish among the top-three in a respective event at the regional. Then the next four best performances among the fourth-seventh placers from all the combined regionals will also qualify.
Snodgrass automatically qualified in each of her events.
She was the runner-up in the 800 with her time of 2:18.98 and third in the 400 with a 58.68.
The mile relay team also took third place with its time of 4:05.43, which isn’t far off the school record. Snodgrass was joined by Abbie Myers, Mattie Slezickey and Reese Roof.
The two-mile relay team was the runner-up in a time of 9:58.75. Joining Snodgrass were Harper Evans, Addison Price and Slezickey.
The 800 meter relay team of Taitym Walker, Adlee Friesen, Roof and Myers was fifth.
Their time of 1:49.36 was good enough to get into the state meet.
That made Roof and Myers qualifiers in three events.
Not only did the pair of juniors make it in the relays, but also in the 300 meter hurdles.
Roof was the regional runner-up in 48.45. She was one place and just .04 second ahead of Myers, who medaled in the event at state a year ago.
Talor Mecklenburg was sixth in the event in 49.65. That performance made her a two-event qualifier.
Mecklenburg will return to state in the 100 meter hurdles after medaling there last year. She was third at the regional in 16.47.
Freshman Ela Hartman will take part in a pair of jumping events at state.
Hartman was third in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, making her an automatic qualifier.
Her jump of 16 feet, onehalf inch in the long jump placed her sixth, but also was good enough to qualify for state.
Kingfisher also got points out of its 400 meter relay team. Walker, Friesen, Roof and Slezickey were fourth, but their time of 52.91 didn’t qualify for state.
The 4A state meet is this Friday and Saturday at Plainview High School.
