A pair of convincing wins over Wellston added a district championship to Okarche softball’s trophy case.

The host Lady Warriors beat Wellston 7-1 Thursday and 6-0 Friday to win a Class A district and advance to this week’s regional tournament.

Wellston opened the tournament with a 7-5 victory over Fletcher on Thursday, but couldn’t sniff that kind of production against Okarche ace Lawson Geheb.

The right-hander gave up just three hits and one unearned run over her seven innings.

She struck out 10 Lady Tigers and walked only one.

Geheb got some early support when Callie Cramer doubled home Geheb and Katie Parham as part of a three-run inning in the first.

It remained quiet offensively for both teams until Okarche doubled its run total in the sixth.

Parham delivered an RBI single and Holland Carnott an RBI groundout as part of another threerun frame.

Parham added yet another RBI in the seventh and finished 3 for 5 with two runs and 2 RBIs.

Carnott and Ava Meier had two hits apiece.

Wellston stayed alive in the tournament be eliminating Fletcher 11-1 later on Thursday.

However, Friday was much the same story against Okarche.

Geheb gave up three hits and struck out eight in the shutout.

She had 18 strikeouts and just one walk over 14 innings in the district.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Carnott’s single sent home Geheb and Parham.

Okarche finished with three runs in the frame and pushed it to 4-0 in the fourth on Geheb’s RBI triple.

Callie Cramer and Carnott added RBIs in the sixth inning.

Okarche had six hits in the game, two by Chloe Rother, who scored twice.

Carnott had 3 RBIs. The Lady Warriors enter this week’s regional with a 20-13 record.
