Not too many girls basketball teams can give up more than 70 points and still win.

Then again, Lomega isn’t your typical program.

Class B’s top-ranked Lady Raiders held off rally after rally from No. 8 Arnett to survive an 80-73 shootout Saturday in the finals of the Canton Invitational.

“They can score,” Lomega coach Kevin Lewallen said of Arnett. “But they still shot it really well on top of that. We’d get up 14 or 15 and they’d make some tough shots to get back in it.”

Lomega scored 44 firsthalf points and led by 11 points at halftime, but Arnett was able to cut it to five entering the fourth.

The Lady Wildcats’ “big 3” of Brooklyn Bayless, Anna Sant’anna and Ashton Suthers combined to score 16 points in the third.

They kept it going in the fourth.

Sant’anna poured in 10 more in the final eight minutes as part of her 21 points.

Bayless added six and ended her night with 25.

But it still wasn’t enough to overcome Lomega’s depth and ability to score in a variety of ways.

Playing on a bad ankle, Hensley Eaton scored 14 points in the final quarter.

The senior went 8 for 8 from the free throw line to help Lomega maintain its lead and ended her night with 20.

“She played really, really well, especially considering she played on a bad ankle,” Lewallen said.

Eaton averaged seven assists for the tournament.

“She deserved to be on the all-tournament team,” Lewallen added.

That distinction went to Sydni Walker and Abby Swart.

Walker scored 15 of her team-high 21 points in the second half. She also grabbed 11 rebounds in the title game.

Swart scored all 12 of her points in the first half.

She made three 3-pointers in the second quarter as did junior Darcy Roberts.

Roberts scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half and was named the tournament MVP.

She led the team with 16 points Friday as Lomega survived Oklahoma Bible Academy 52-44.

OBA was able to slow the pace in the first half as the score was tied 13-13.

Roberts scored 10 in the second half as Lomega began to pull away.

Swart scored all 10 of her points in the final two quarters while Hallie Barton added nine.

Lomega ended the tournament with an 8-1 overall record.

Calumet tops Raiders for boys title

The Lomega boys have four losses this season.

Half of those are thanks to Calumet.

The Chieftains got the better of the Raiders for the second time Saturday as they claimed the Canton Invitational title 64-49.

Lomega was within 28- 24 at halftime, but the Chieftains pulled away late to claim the championship.

Three different Chieftains scored at least five points in the fourth quarter as they outscored Lomega 20-12.

It helped offset a big second half by Owen Duffy and fourth quarter by Owen Marsh.

Duffy scored 11 of his team-high 14 points in the final two quarters.

Marsh scored six in the fourth and made one of three Lomega treys in that quarter.

Marsh, a freshman, ended his night with 12 points.

But the Chieftains had too much firepower.

Matt Snyder scored six points in the fourth and 23 for the game.

Four Chieftains scored nine points or more.

Duffy was named to the all-tournament team as were Blake Snowden and Kelby Ott.

Snowden and Ott scored seven apiece in the title game.

Snowden went off for 20 points in the 48-39 win against Oklahoma Bible Academy in the semifinals.

The Raiders overwhelmed OBA 23-9 in the first quarter.

Brooks Uhlenhake scored all nine of his points and Duffy six of his 10 in the frame.

Snowden made five 3-pointers.
