Brennan Fletcher continued his production at the plate and Trypp Lack threw a complete game to help deliver a district baseball championship to Dover.

The Longhorns downed Frontier 9-3 at home on Friday to complete their sweep of a Class B district and advance to this week’s regional.

Dover, ranked sixth in the class, will travel to Stuart for a four-team regional beginning Thursday.

Two teams will advance from the regional to next week’s state tournament. (Note: See related regional schedule.)

Dover’s Friday victory came after the Longhorns escaped Thurdsay with a pair of one-run wins.

The first of those was 4-3 against Frontier in which Dover scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

There were no dramatics in Friday’s rematch.

Fletcher drove in four runs in the championship game, which included an RBI double in the first inning to score Lack and put Dover on the board.

His big hit, however, was a three-run double in the second inning that saw Dover push its lead to 5-0.

That was enough support for Lack, who cruised until the fifth inning.

That’s when he loaded the bases by hitting two batters and surrendering a single.

Lincoln Ingmire doubled to clear the bases and pull his team within two runs.

But Lack settled in and got back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the frame.

He finished with eight strikeouts in the game to go with two walks and two hit batters.

He surrendered five hits overall.

Dover got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when John Browning led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brok Cooper.

Three more insurance runs crossed the plate in the sixth, including an RBI triple by Browning, who then scored on Bryce Cockayne’s double.

Browning was 3 for 4 with three runs and an RBI.

Fletcher was 2 for 4 and Lack also had two hits in the game.

Dover was 20-6 on the season after the win.

The Longhorns and Okarche played a regional tune-up game on Monday.
