Monday a big day on HS sports calendar
Next Monday marks the official start of fall sports in Oklahoma, although some are getting an early start this weekend.
Aug. 11 is the day the season can open for fall baseball, fastpitch softball, volleyball and cross country.
It’s also the day football teams can begin limited practice.
However, Dover is opening its baseball season this Friday, Aug. 8, at Leedey.
Coach Pete Voth said the OSSAA allows teams to start early if they’ve already begun their school year.
Both Dover and Leedey start classes this Thursday, Aug. 7.
As for Kingfisher, the Lady Jackets softball team is playing this week (Aug. 5-7) in the Pioneer Festival, but the season’s first true contest is Monday at Edmond Santa Fe.
They won’t play their first home game until Aug. 19 when they host Woodward.
The cross country team begins its season Aug. 23 at Weatherford.
