With a felony charge being handed down Tuesday, Kingfisher Public Schools has placed head football coach Jeff Myers on an indefinite leave while the legal process plays out.

“The district has placed Mr. Myers on administrative leave pending the outcome of this legal matter,” Superintendent David Glover said in a statement to the Times & Free Press on Wednesday.

“Because this is a personnel issue, I am unable to provide additional information at this time.”

Myers was charged with child neglect by District Attorney Mike Fields’ office after a lengthy investigation that stemmed from allegations by a former player. ( Note: See related story.)

Glover said Stan Blundell, a longtime KHS football assistant, will be the interim head coach. All other coaching staff members remain in place.

Blundell is also the assistant athletic director, head baseball coach and a wrestling coach.

He joined the KHS football staff in 1999 and was the defensive coordinator for both of the program’s state championship teams.

Blundell’s first game as head coach was Thursday night when Kingfisher hosted McLoud.

Glover addressed the football team members and coaching staff Wednesday morning to alert them of the moves.

“I told them to keep on representing,” Glover said of his address to the team. “They still have a lot to play for this season.”

As a result of the leave of absence, Glover said Myers will not take part in football activities or his teaching duties at the school.
