Narrow defeats end Jacket soccer playoff bid

The Kingfisher boys soccer team entered the private school gauntlet portion of its district schedule with a shot at making the playoffs.

It couldn’t quite make it out with one of those spots locked up.

The Jackets’ season ended Thursday night with a 10-0 loss at Mount St. Mary in Oklahoma City.

The win gave the Rockets the District 3A-1 championship with their 6-0 mark.

However, it was Kingfisher’s previous two heartbreaking losses that all but eliminated the Jackets from playoff contention.

KHS lost 2-1 in overtime to Oklahoma Christian School on April 15.

They suffered a defeat by the same score at home against Heritage Hall last Tuesday.

Junior Alan Muñoz netted both of the goals for Kingfisher in the losses.

The defeats gave KHS a 2-3 district mark, which moved to 2-4 after Thursday.

Heritage Hall and OCS were both 3-2 in the district leading up to their head-to head matchup Friday (after press time).

Kingfisher was 3-7 overall.

MSM too much for Lady Jackets, 6-1

Jimena Gomez found the net for the KHS girls Thursday, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Jackets fell 6-1 to Mount St. Mary on the road.

The Gomez goal, on an assist from Peyton Walker, ended a stretch of three straight scoreless games for the Lady Jackets.

Kingfisher’s season ended with a 1-10 overall record, which included 1-6 in district games.

Mount St. Mary locked up its playoff spot with its 4-3 district record. The Lady Rockets are 10-5 overall.
