Okarche gets 2 victories
Like Kingfisher, Okarche became an unexpected host of the first two days of the Highway 81 Classic.
Rains throughout the week moved the tournament’s pool play action from its scheduled hosts Pioneer-Pleasant Vale and Chisholm - to the turfed fields of Okarche and Kingfi sher.
And like Kingfisher, Okarche was able to open up the tournament with a pair of easy victories.
The Lady Warriors downed Timberlake 7-1 and Chisholm 10-1.
Okarche got the win against Timberlake despite collecting only one hit.
Rather the Lady Warriors took advantage of being walked six times, hit by pitches four more times and three Timberlake errors.
That hit was a two-run single off the bat of Katie Parham in the bottom of the second inning.
That pushed the Lady Warriors to a 3-0 lead. It was never threatened.
Okarche added four more in the fourth, all with either a walk or hit batter with the bases loaded.
Lawson Geheb pitched the first three innings for Okarche and refused to give up a hit. She struck out four batters.
Sara Jacobs closed it out with two innings of two-hit work. She surrendered one run and struck out one.
The team pounded out eight hits in the win over Chisholm.
The most productive of those was a grand slam by Geheb in the third inning to push the Lady Warriors to a 9-1 advantage.
Hannah Carnott added a leadoff homer in the fourth inning to make it 10-1.
Okarche had four extra- base hits in the game, two by Geheb.
