Entering Thursday, Silo had never lost a first-round game in the spring state tournament under coach Billy Jack Bowen.

That streak is still intact. Silo overcame Cashion’s red-hot start to score a dozen unanswered runs and end the Wildcats’ season 12-3 in the Class 2A quarterfinals at Dolese Park’s Palmer Field.

“I’m extremely proud of our guys,” said coach Blake Mounce. “They put together a great season.”

Cashion (27-7) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings.

That included a two-run home run by Brexten Green in the bottom of the first inning and a run-scoring double off the bat of Nathaniel Bronaugh in the second.

But Tagen Conery quieted the Cashion bats over the next three innings as his own team began to heat up offensively.

The rally started in the top of the third when Chase Corbin smacked a second straight double for Silo off of Cashion starter Hayden Branch, this one pushing two runs across home plate. Delton Roberts’ RBI groundout tied the game at 3-all.

The Rebels (36-2) scored every inning the rest of the way, including a two-run single off Corbins’ bat in the third as Silo took the lead for good.

Silo got help from its own long ball in the fifth when Easton Ford led off with a solo homer and in the seventh when Kyler Proctor blasted a three-run shot for insurance runs.

“They’ve got a really good lineup,” Mounce said. “(Hayden) had some trouble with his off-speed stuff and they capitalized, plus we made some mistakes on defense.”

That run support provided the win for Conary, who threw four innings of relief.

Will Farr closed it out with two innings of work for the Rebels, who won their 26th game of the season and their 19th straight spring quarterfinal game.

Green had two of Cashion’s four hits as he added a single in the sixth.

Landon LaGasse and Bronaugh accounted for the Wildcats’ other hits.
