Rivalry trophy stays in Cashion
Smith leads Cashion to 42-13 victory over Crescent in War on 74
The War on 74 trophy is staying with Cashion.
The Wildcats bounced back from their first loss of the season to throttle visiting Crescent 42-13 on Thursday night.
It’s Cashion’s second straight year to win the rivalry game after dropping it to the Tigers in 2023.
Junior Kellen Smith had another big night as he combined for 331 yards and four touchdowns.
That included 139 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, both of which came in a first quarter that saw the Wildcats jump out to a 21-0 lead.
The scoring got started by Jaden Bolton’s 2-yard scoring run on Cashion’s first drive.
On the next possession, Smith sifted through the Tiger defense, then hit the sideline and outran the Tigers for a 62-yard scoring run.
His 30-yard pass to Ethan Waswo on the next possession set up Smith’s second TD, a 5-yard run.
The Tigers cut their deficit to 21-7 when Tucker Stover found Jeremiah Rogers for a 28-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
But Cashion got those points back - and then some - by halftime.
Bolton scored his second touchdown of the night, this one on a 28-yard wheel route as Smith dropped in his first passing TD of the night.
Grayson Davis chipped in a 1-yard TD run to make it 35-7 at the half.
Davis later caught a 5-yard touchdown from Smith, who ended his night 13 of 22 passing for 199 yards.
Davis caught seven of those passes for 56 yards.
Hank Brown added 44 yards receiving and Bolton 42.
Cashion had 367 total yards of offense to 242 for the Tigers. Both teams snapped it 52 times.
Waswo, playing for just the second time this season, led the team with seven tackles.
Austin Compton added six.
Cashion improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in District A-I-1.
Crescent dropped to 3-4 and 1-3.
The Wildcats host Sayre this Friday. The Eagles are currently tied with Cashion in the district and have a 5-2 overall record.
