A quick start helped Kingfisher cruise into a Class 4A girls regional championship game.

Ela Hartman and Reese Roof combined for six firsthalf 3-pointers as the Lady Jackets doubled up Cleveland, then rode that lead to a 53-37 victory in a Class 4A girls regional semifinal in Cushing.

The win was Kingfisher’s 16th straight and vaults it into the regional championship game against Mannford at 6 p.m. Saturday (after press time of this edition).

The Lady Jackets take a 23-3 record and a No. 6 ranking into the regional final. Mannford, unranked, knocked off No. 14 North Rock Creek 69-59 in their regional semi on Tuesday.

Sharp shooting and Cleveland’s struggles with Kingfisher’s pressure saw the Lady Jackets jump out to a 17-7 lead.

Hartman made two first-quarter treys and Roof scored 7, including a 3-pointer of her own.

Roof added two more from long range in the second quarter - and Hartman one - as the lead extended to 30-15 at the half.

The Lady Jackets hit nine 3’s as a team.

Roof nailed five of them and Taitym Walker also added one in the second half as the Lady Jackets grew their lead to as many as 21.

KHS was 8 of 13 from the line in the second half as well.

Roof led all scorers with 25 points and 6 boards.

Hartman finished with 12 and 5 assists.

Walker scored 7 and Abbie Myers finished her night with 6 points and 9 rebounds.

A win Saturday puts the Lady Jackets into this Friday’s area championship game and within one win of getting back to the state tournament for the fourth time in five years.

A loss sends Kingfisher into the consolation bracket where it would need three wins in as many days at area to advance.
