Scout Snodgrass made a couple of trips to the medal stand last weekend as Kingfisher High School wrapped up the track and field season.

The Lady Jackets tied for 18th with 16 points at the Class 4A meet held Friday and Saturday at Ardmore High School.

Snodgrass accounted for a large chunk of those points.

The freshman was the bronze medalist in the 800 meter run.

“She ran a perfect race,” coach Kerri Lafferty said. “She did exactly what we told her and she really dug in those last 300 meters and passed a lot of people.”

Snodgrass, one of only two freshmen in the race, finished in 2:19.30.

She was also a part of the mile relay team that finished sixth in 4:11.21, its best time of the season.

Joining Snodgrass were Emily Myers, Hannah Francis and Jaelin Cortes.

Snodgrass also made the finals in the 400 meter dash and placed seventh in 59.45.

The top-eight placers at state earn points for their respective teams.

Sophomore Talor Mecklenburg was able to crack the finals of the 100 meter hurdles.

Mecklenburg eventually finished eighth in 17.16 seconds, her third-best time of the year.

Freshman Abbie Myers’ mirrored Mecklenburg in the 300 hurdles as she qualified for the finals and took eighth in 50.40.

The two-mile relay team of Liberty Starr, Chesni Newkirk, Snodgrass and Natalie Garrett was ninth.

KHS also had Harper Evans place 14th in the 3,200 meter run and Cortes 16th in the high jump.

“It was a hot couple of days and it made for some tough conditions,” Lafferty said. “But it was still a good weekend overall.

“We have almost every one of those girls coming back and with some of the girls we have coming up, I’m excited about what next year can offer.”
