Playoff hopes are within grasp of the Kingfisher girls soccer team after a thrilling shootout win last week.

The Lady Jackets defeated Woodward 2-1 after shootout goals from Matiland Pickle, Nayeli Gutierrez and Chelsea Johnson.

Meanwhile, Paige Yeoman denied the Lady Boomers enough times to secure the District 4A-2 win and move within a tie for third place at 3-2.

KHS is tied with Crossings Christian which it hosted Tuesday night (after press time).

Woodward, which dropped to 2-3, also has an upcoming game with Crossings, leaving up the possibility for a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots in the district.

Hanna Matthews gave Kingfisher its lone goal in regulation as she scored on an assist from Pickle in the 11th minutes.

Woodward tied the game with about 10 minutes left in regulation and the teams played two scoreless overtimes before the shootout.

Yeoman had 14 total saves.

The KHS boys were defeated 5-0 by the Boomers in the nightcap.

The loss dropped them to 2-3 the district, which is currently good for fourth place.

John Marshall games called off; Alumni games,

Senior Night taking their

place

Kingfisher was set to host John Marshall in a pair of district contests Thursday, but John Marshall has forfeited the remainder of its boys and girls soccer schedules.

That gives both KHS teams 1-0 wins for the forfeits.

Games, however, will still be played and Kingfisher’s soccer seniors will be honored.

KHS soccer coach Fay Barnett is bringing in soccer alumni to take on the current squads.

The girls will play alumni at 5:30 p.m.

That will be followed by Senior Night at 6:45 p.m.

The boys game will follow the ceremony.
