Kingfisher’s first round of the Class 4A state golf tournament didn’t start off too badly.

It just didn’t get any better.

The Jackets shot a threeround total of 1,009 last Monday and Tuesday at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore.

That placed them 12th out of 12 teams.

KHS turned in a 326 in its first of two rounds on Monday.

Though in 10th place with their score, the Jackets were less than 10 strokes from sixth place.

However, the numbers got progressively higher for Kingfisher in the subsequent rounds.

Kingfisher shot a 337 in the second 18 holes Monday and then a 346 in Tuesday’s final round.

Senior Myles Harrison led Kingfisher’s charge with a 233.

That tied him for 16th among more than 75 golfers.

Harrison shot a 4-overpar 74 in the first round and was in 10th place.

He carded an 80 in Monday’s evening round and a 79 Tuesday.

Paytun Burnham had rounds of 86, 84 and 81 for a 261 for Kingfisher.

The Jackets also got a 267 from Matthew Mecklenburg and 268s from both Luciano Orozco and Cale Reagan.

The team and individual champs both competed at Kingfisher Golf Course this season.

Oklahoma Christian School is the 4A state champ as it finished at 896.

That was 17 strokes better than runner-up Cascia Hall.

The Saints also won the 4A regional that was hosted at Kingfisher 10 days prior.

Heritage Hall’s Ben Lathrop was the state medalist.

The Charger had rounds of 69, 64 and 76.

His 209 was 1-under-par overall and was nine strokes better than Ty Neatherlin of OCS.

Lathrop won the Kingfisher Large School Boys Invitational last month when he shot an 8-under 62, beating the tournament record of 63 held by Kingfi sher’s Mason Overstreet since 2015.

Hennessey survived a marathon first day of the Class 3A state tournament at Shangri-La Resort to shoot its best round of the tournament on the final day.

The Eagles were on the course for nearly 12 hours in Monday’s 36 holes and offered nearly matching rounds of 364 and 365.

They came back Tuesday to record a 355.

Their 1,084 total placed them 11th out of 12 teams.

Community Christian won the state championship with a 906. Marlow’s 937 was good for state runner- up honors.

Senior Taylor Ladwig bounced back from an opening- round 87 to shoot 81 and 82 in his final rounds.

The 250 placed him 31st out of 73 golfers.

Daren Lara had rounds of 80, 87 and 94 for a 261. The Eagles also saw Kevin Trillo shoot 276, Brayson Brinson a 300 and Jameson Ladwig a 336.

The individual crown went to Will Whorton of Community Christian.

He was 4-under for the tournament as he carded rounds of 69, 70 and 73 on the par-72 course.

Okarche had the best showing of the county teams…and the shortest trip to state.

The Warriors shot a three-round total of 1,023 to place them fifth in the Class 2A state tournament at Enid’s Oakwood Country Club.

A strong third and final round boosted the Warriors up the leaderboard.

They shot 326 on Tuesday, the second-best round of any team in the field.

That came after rounds of 345 and 352 on Monday.

Regent Prep’s 317 was the only round better than Okarche’s on Tuesday.

That helped vault the Rams to the team title. Their 948 beat runner-up Thomas by 11 strokes.

Benton Manly was a big part of that comeback as he fired a 5-under-par 66 on Tuesday to secure the individual title. He also had rounds of 76 and 68 to finish at -3 for the tournament.

Hunter Mueggenborg led Okarche.

He opened with rounds of 88 and 83 and then closed it out with a 77 on Tuesday.

His 248 was good for 16th individually.

Asher Scheiber’s consistency saw him shoot 84 and then a pair of 85s for a 254. That tied him for 26th.

Also for Okarche, Carter Robinson shot 260, Lane Rother 261 and Hudson Mueggenborg a 277.

Dover’s Sam Wood was also a part of the field.

The school’s first golf state qualifier finished with a 250, tying him for 19th.

Wood opened up with a 78 on Monday and then carded an 88 in the afternoon round. He finished it up with an 84.
