KHS FRESHMAN Ally Stephenson tries to clear the bar in the high jump at the Watonga Track and Field Meet last Friday. Stephenson took second in the event behind Cashion’s Madelyn McCabe, but set a school record with her jump of 5-2.

Ally Stephenson didn’t get a gold medal at the Watonga Invitational Track and Field Meet, but she did get a school record.

The Kingfisher High School freshman was out-dueled by Cashion standout Madelyn McCabe in the high jump last Friday and had to settle for silver. However, Stephenson’s clearance of 5 feet, 2 inches set a new KHS record, breaking the old mark set by Albany Hightower in 2015. McCabe jumped 5-4 to take home gold to match the one she earned in the long jump with a leap of 17-3.25. McCabe led the Cashion girls to a third-place finish with 102 points.

Chisholm won the meet with 193 points while Watonga was runner-up with 145.5.

KHS was fourth with 99. The Lady Jackets were led by senior Madeline Loosen, who won both the 800 and 1,600.

Kaitin Taylor won the 3,200 for the Cashion girls. On the boys’ side, the KHS boys were fifth with 78 points while the Cashion boys scored 38 for seventh. Cade Stephenson, Ally’s brother, won the 100 and the high jump.

The sophomore edged Cashion’s Sam Brown by .03 in the sprint. He cleared 6-0 in the high jump.

Colton York was the only other Yellowjacket to stand atop the medal stand as he bested the field in the long jump with a leap of 21-9.75.

Cashion’s Austin Vandruff took home gold in the 200.
