Crescent had been perfect in one-score games this season.

Until Saturday, that is.

Tonkawa put an end to that streak with a 21-20 victory at Crescent.

The visiting Bucs scored with 30 seconds left in the first half and got a twopoint run by Tristen Burdick to go up 21-20.

Neither team managed a score in the second half.

“We battled, but just had too many penalties that stalled drives,” coach J.L. Fisher said after his team dropped to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in District A-3.

Crescent had 10 penalties for 75 yards in the game.

The Tigers were able to strike first when Hunter Wilmoth scored on a 15-yard run at 6:29 of the first quarter.

The Bucs struck back twice before the end of the frame.

Burdick scored on a 48-yard run at 4:49 and then again on a 3-yard plunge with just under 1:00 to go in the quarter.

Wilmoth had his own answer at 8:46 of the second quarter when he found the end zone from 11 yards out.

The extra-point attempt failed and Crescent trailed 13-12.

The Tigers reclaimed the lead with 3:28 to go in the half when Wilmoth raced in from 23 yards out. His two-point run made it 20-13.

But the lead didn’t stick as Ryan Morgan found Jaidyn Guzman for an 11-yard score near the end of the half. It was Tonkawa’s only completed pass of the game.

The ensuing two-point conversion run proved to be the difference.

Burdick and Wilmoth put on tremendous individual performances for their respective teams.

Burdick was handed the ball 29 times and turned them into 224 yards.

Wilmoth carried it 26 times for 183 yards. He completed 4 of 5 passes for 32 yards.

Luke Descher added another 54 yards on 14 attempts.

Descher led the defense’s effort with eight tackles.

Tayon Johnson added seven.

Three of Crescent’s first four games had been decided by seven points or less.

The Tigers had won all three.

They’ll take the week off before returning Thursday, Oct. 15, at home against Watonga.
