Two Kingfisher High School football players earned Most Valuable Player honors when the District 3A-1 awards were announced recently.

Riley Myers was named the co-Defensive MVP and Clayton Abercrombie the Special Teams MVP after a vote of the district’s coaches.

Playing on the defensive line, Myers was third on the team with 64 tackles and led the team with nine tackles for a loss.

That included a pair of sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Abercrombie was Kingfi sher’s utility man on special teams.

He made 43 of 48 extra-point attempts and was 2 of 3 on field goal tries. That included kicking a game winner in overtime to help Kingfi sher defeat Marlow in the fi rst round of the playoffs.

Abercrombie also averaged 32.8 yards on his 32 punts.

On kick returns, Abercrombie averaged 21.1 yards on kickoff returns, including one touchdown, and 10.6 yards on punt returns.

Yellowjackets named to the all-district fi rst team were Keaton Abercrombie at running back, Reese Hart at wide receiver, Wes Hine and Case Wills at offensive line, Hayden Stafford at tight end and Tanner Thompson at defensive line.

Second teamers were Kyle Fahlenkamp at linebacker and Matthew Palmer at offensive line.

Jose Marquez and Bailey Willson earned honorable mention while Sebastian Orozco was honored as an injured player.

Kingfisher went 5-2 in the district and placed third behind Heritage Hall and Perkins-Tryon.

Heritage Hall’s Phillip Smitherman was named the District MVP.

Co-Offensive MVPs were Elian Morales of John Marhall and Ayron Lawson of Perkins-Tryon.

Hardy Bowers of Heritage Hall joined Myers as co-Defensive MVP.

Perkins-Tryon’s Bruce Williams was voted coach of the year.
