Warriors dominate the field to win Dale Tournament
Okarche capped off one of the more impressive week’s in recent memory last Saturday.
The Warriors laid claim to the Dale Invitational Tournament with a 6-1 victory over the host Pirates.
It capped a three-day run in which Okarche outscored its foes 23-2.
That included defeating Fort Cobb-Broxton 7-1 in the quarterfinals and then Dale JV 10-0 in the semifi nals.
Fort Cobb is the reigning Class B state champ from both last fall and last spring.
Dale is a perennial contender in Class 2A.
But the Pirates had trouble figuring out Okarche pitching.
Brett Carnott threw 6 1/3 solid innings to grab the win. He only surrendered three hits while striking out nine.
Easton Roby secured the final two outs.
Roby also got Okarche on the scoreboard in the fifth with a two-run double.
Jett Mueggenborg made it 3-0 with his RBI double and then Ethan Kirby chipped in a run-scoring hit.
It remained 4-0 until the seventh when Kirby’s double scored Roby and Mueggenborg.
Kirby was 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs.
Roby went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and runs scored.
Luke Hill was 2 for 3 and scored once while Mueggenborg had an RBI and two runs.
Cody Endres threw four hitless innings in the run rule victory against Dale JV. He walked two and struck out two.
Kirby was 2 for 3 in the game and drove in three runs.
Mueggenborg and Jake Henderson had 2 RBIs apiece while Hill and Carnott both scored twice.
It was Hill doing a bulk of the mound work against Fort Cobb.
He pitched six shutout innings in which he surrendered just two hits.
Hill struck out eight while walking only two.
Cy Collamore pitched the seventh and struck out one batter while giving up an unearned run.
But Hill was stuck in a pitcher’s duel with Isaac Tsonetokoy for much of the game.
It was scoreless until the seventh when Kirby led off with a single.
He later scored on a fielder’s choice by Sam Kroener and that opened the flood gates.
Kroener eventually scored on a wild pitch while Roby was at the plate and then an error in center field on Roby’s fly ball pushed home two more runs.
Mueggenborg’s triple made it 5-0 as Roby raced home and then Kroener struck again, this time with a two-run single.
Sooner State Baseball Report put out a “power poll” of the state’s best fall teams at the conclusion of the weekend.
Okarche, 4-0 after the tournament, was ranked No. 1.
Dale was third and Fort Cobb eighth.
The Warriors also defeated the team ranked fourth in the poll, Canute, 2-0 last week in their opener.
