Compton returns as Dover cruises
Casen Buck lit up Oilton for 24 points Tuesday as No. 1 Dover rolled to an 80-37 win in a Class B-II regional semifinal.
The Longhorns will host No. 19 Cimarron at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for the regional championship as they continue their quest for back-to-back state tournament appearances.
The Blazers upset No. 16 Lomega 46-41 Tuesday on the Raiders’ home court.
Dover will take a 25-2 record into the regional final.
The Longhorns have been without Daxx Compton since the first quarter of the team’s second loss, which came Feb. 5 at Okeene.
He missed most of that game and three more with an injured ankle, but returned against Oilton to score 12 points.
He scored 5 in the first quarter as Dover got out to a 21-6 lead.
Buck had 14 by halftime as Dover led 42-16. The junior then poured in another 10 points in the third quarter.
Kyler Williams added 10 points for the Longhorns.
Dover made 10 3-pointers as a team.
Buck had three of them while Williams, Compton and Marco Sotelo nailed two apiece.
Sotelo scored all 8 of his points in the dominant first half and Dover also got 9 points from A.J. Avila.
