RETIREMENT CELEBRATION – Two longtime staples of downtown Kingfisher are retiring at the end of this year. Dennis and Tammy Mueggenborg - owners of Designs by Dennis - will serve their last day in those roles on Dec. 31 before turning it over to new owners on Jan. 1. There will be a “retirement celebration” in their honor at the store - located at 218 N. Main St. - from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30. It will be the celebration of a couple synonymous with Kingfisher. Dennis graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1977 and began working as a florist at Maxine’s Flowers and Gifts not long after. He purchased the business in 1981 and renamed it Designs by Dennis. All the while, Tammy has been by his side as they raised their three children and she also serve as a city commissioner. Meanwhile Dennis proved his knowledge and skills in his industry in 2015 by being selected as an accredited member of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD), an internationally-recognized group of floral professionals. He’s earned a number of honors locally, including being inducted into the KHS Hall of Fame and being named the Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. Although the couple is retiring, don’t expect Dennis to fade into the sunset. He said he’ll be sticking around the store for several months, aiding the new owners as they begin a new chapter downtown. [KT&FP Staff Photo]
