‘He fits the bill'

Zac Kannady knew his dad was going to be uncomfortable.

And he couldn’t have been prouder to add to it.

Zac on Monday announced Greg Kannady as the 2023 Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award winner.

The presentation took place during the Chamber’s 85th annual banquet held at the Kingfisher Fairgrounds Exhibit Building.

Greg Kannady is president of LuGreg Trucking, an oilfield fluid hauling company that began in 1981.

Zac is following his father’s footsteps in the family business.

“In this family, there’s one thing we’re not real good at. It’s being passionate, kind and having a lot of words of affirmation,” Zac said.

“When you’re in the oilfield, it’s just hard.”

But the younger Kannady had more than enough kind things to say about the night’s honoree.

“The good news for me, though, I know how much he’s going to hate this, so I’m going to be really sweet about it,” Zac said.

Zac, who said in reading the criteria for the honor, noted that some words stood out to him more than others in relating to his father.

“Three words that have been discussed with me and moreover have been displayed to me for many years by Greg,” said Zac.

They were responsibility, integrity and vision.

As for responsibility, Zac said: “How we treat each other, how we communicate, how we work, how we listen, how we serve, how we choose to respond and so on.

“We have so many responsibilities for each of us. Greg understands he has a responsibility and he has a big opportunity for impact and he does not take those lightly.”

Zac said integrity is often discussed with his father in business and at home.

“What you do when no one is looking, when there’s no fanfare around us is as important as any other time,” he said. “For Greg, this has always been a driving value in business and in life. It takes repetition over time to build your character and worth, but you can quickly erase that with one corner cut.

“Integrity calls you to perform at your best no matter the circumstances, no matter who is watching or what it may cost you.

“I think that is a thing Greg has shown to many around us for many years.”

Zac also said his father “always reminded those around him to have a vision.”

He then quoted the beginning of Proverbs 29:18 - “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”

“For Greg, his vision has always been revolved around ‘operational excellence for His glory,’ Zac said.

“Some may know that slogan as our business vision and that would be true.”

Zac said his father fit the criteria and not just for a year.

“What I felt was apparent when I really thought about this was a consistent delivery of these qualities over time,” he said.

“In business and in life, it’s one thing to do it one time; it’s another thing to do it day after day.”

Zac later stated his father “fit the bill” when it came to the award’s criteria.

“He fits the bill and he does it so with an unassuming conviction of a person who just is doing exactly what he feels called to do,” he said.

Zac closed by reading more scripture and how it fit Greg Kannady. It was Matthew 5:16 - “Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
