Annual Life Chain event planned Oct. 2 in Hennessey
A 35th annual pro-life event is slated early next month in Hennessey and carries with it added emphasis in light of the Supreme Court’s recent reversal of the Roe vs. Wade decision.
Life Chain will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the corner of U.S. Highway 81 and State Highway 51.
The local event will coincide with similar ones taking place across the U.S. and Canada at the same time.
Locally, the rally is sponsored by the Pro-life Committee of Hennessey and Dover.
“Life Chain is an annual peaceful time of prayer for the preservation of all human life, from conception to natural death,” said Valerie Wissman, a coordinator for the event.
However, Wissman noted, this year’s event will also be shaped by the Supreme Court’s decision.
“This year, we are also going to place emphasis on supporting crisis pregnancy centers,” Wissman said.
“I spoke with the Crossroads Clinic and was told that they have clinics in both Guthrie and Oklahoma City. Hope Pregnancy Center also has several locations in Oklahoma. The option of adoption is also encouraged by our Life Chain committee.”
This year’s event will last one hour and people throughout the Kingfisher County area are welcome to attend, Wissman said.
Wissman added that signs will be available for participants and those unable to stand for the hour are welcome to bring lawn chairs.
“We will spend that time in prayer for the Lord to open the hearts of people to choose life for their babies,” Wissman said.
