Big 4 to seek grant to replace brush truck
Clayton Morse, representing the Big Four Fire Department, reported to Kingfisher County Commissioners Monday that the department was considering seeking grants to help purchase a brush truck to replace one lost fighting October wildfires.
The fires in southeast Kingfi sher County destroyed 10 homes, two businesses and an agriculture structure during an extended dry spell.
Commissioners Jeff Moss, District 1; Ray Alan Shimanek, District 2, and Anthony Schwarz, District 3, encouraged the effort.
Also visiting the meeting was Wesley Javorski, representative of District 3 U.S. Congressman Frank Lucas.
Javorski said he was making a get-acquainted visit to the county and had no particular message.
Deputy County Clerk Emily Lee announced that a retirement party for three retiring county officials – County Clerk Jeannie Boevers, Shimanek and Court Clerk Lisa Markus is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at the courthouse. The public is invited.
All three are retiring at the end of their current terms. None sought re-election.
Commissionersapproved the following actions:
• Removal of two tractors each for Districts 1 and 3 from property rolls so that the equipment can be traded in on new tractors, using state purchasing.
• Soliciting bids for election board ballot printing (digital ballots) for the 2025 calendar year. Bids will be accepted until 4 p.m., Dec. 20, at the county clerk’s office and will be opened at the regular commissioner meeting on Dec. 23.
• A list of surplus property from the old county jail facility, including three Sig P220 45m handguns, one of which had not been located. A letter from the District Attorney’s office recommending a procedure to follow regarding the missing gun.
• A list of surplus equipment for the county clerk’s office, including five work stations, an HP computer, Savin copier and Canon copier.
• A list of surplus equipment for the treasurer’s office, two Hon office chairs.
• A change in the Hennessey Fire Department’s requesting and receiving officers, including adding Levi Copeland, as receiving officer. Additionally Ruby Rodriguez was removed as receiving officer for Hennessey Library and Macee Smith was added.
• Changing the name of Shelby Lane in the Cashion area to Wolf Creek Lane.
• A federal aid bridge project on Porcupine Creek, giving it a designation of State Job No. 32859. District 3 Commissioner Schwarz said the project had been in the works for several years but it is now moving to active status.
• Approved purchase of furniture in the district courtroom, totaling $13,427.50 to be paid with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
• Second re-plat of Wolf Creek Estates near Cashion.
Also attending the meeting were Emily Lee as minute clerk and County Emergency Manager Ryan Deatherage.
