Christmas is the Season of Giving
Lomega Student Council hosted its annual food drive leading up to the holiday season. Food items were collected at both the elementary and high school campuses. Student Council members also shopped for food items using money that was donated. Pictured below are members sorting through some of the items that were collected before being donated. There are several who need food assistance yearround and especially this time of year. And there are several local groups who strive everyday to help those people. On Wednesday, Dec. 10, the Kingfisher Elks Lodge was able to make significant donations to three of those groups. The lodge applied for and received grants through the Elks National Foundation and made the following donations:
• $4,000 to the Kingfisher County Food Bank
• $3,500 to Kingfisher County Meals on Wheels
• $2,000 to Jacket Pantry Elks members and officers (pictured above) presented the checks at the lodge. Representing the Kingfisher County Food Bank at the presentation was its director, Danica Kramer.
Receiving the donation for Meals on Wheels were board members Lou Barrick, Susie Rice and Vicky Jech.
Accepting on behalf of Jacket Pantry, which benefi ts Kingfisher Public Schools students and their families, were KHS counselors Paula Leffingwell and Tracy Baustert.
Combined with a recent donation to the county food bank by members of the lodge, the Elks have recently given more than $10,000 to local causes.
