County commissioners approve allocations for sales tax dollars
Kingfisher County commissioners approved the division of the county half-cent sales tax and named County Clerk Jeannie Boevers to represent the county on the Oklahoma Public Employees Health and Welfare Plan board, succeeding former District 3 Commissioner Heath Dobrovolny Monday.
Dobrovolny resigned his position as county commissioner earlier in the year to accept a position with the state of New Mexico, thus is no longer eligible to serve on the OPEH&W board of directors.
The county sales tax will be divided as follows: Free Fair 6%, Emergency 911 calling 9%, sheriff 15%, extension service 8%, capital improvements 15%, libraries 1.5%, county commissioners 28% divided equally between the three districts, museum 4% and fire departments 13% divided as follow based on area served within the county – Big Four, .654% based on 46 miles; Cashion, .996% based on 70 miles; Dover, 1.891% based on 133 miles; Hennessey, 3.428% based on 241 miles; Kingfisher, 1.92% based on 135 miles; Loyal, 1.88% based on 132 miles, Okarche, 1.295% based on 91 miles, and Omega, .939% based on 66 miles.
Commissioners approved paying telephone bills for all county offices except district attorney, court clerk/judge, health department, free fair, extension and 911 from the county general fund. The change occurred because of a billing system related to an updated telephone system.
Commissioners also approved a six-month lease agreement with Williams Scotsman, Inc., of Tulsa for a modular building housing the county OSU Extension Service staff on the county fairgrounds. Cost of the 68 by 24-foot unit for the lease period ending Dec. 1 is $3,085.60. A new permanent extension service office is under construction at the fairgrounds.
Commissioners approved paying $1,200 in dues to the Oklahoma County Officers and Deputies Association and $4,500 in dues to the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma (ACCO) and approved monthly reports of the offices of sheriff, treasurer, county clerk, assessor, election board and health department.
Three applications for county road pipeline crossings in District 3 received approval. Three four-inch steel gas lines belonging to Markwest Oklahoma Gas Co. will cross a county road located two miles west and one mile south of Loyal.
Commissioners also approved state reimbursement reports for the election board and district attorney.
It was announced the county clerk’s office will be closed Thursday for a state meeting.
Present for the county meeting were all three county commissioners – Jeff Moss, chairman, District 1; Ray Alan Shimanek, District 2, vice chairman, and Anthony Schwarz, District 3 – as well as County Engineer Nik Smith, 911-Emergency Management Director Ryan Deatherage, and First Deputy County Clerk Emily Lee as minute clerk.
