County takes steps for road project
Kingfisher County commissioners took action Tuesday leading to another three miles of new concrete paving on the Dover- Crescent Road in District 2.
Ray Alan Shimanek, District 2 commissioner, who made the motion to approve a selection process to employ a provider to negotiate purchase of a small amount of additional property for the road right-of-way, said the right-of-way is important to protect the new highway area from flooding.
The road, which is expected to be constructed in 2024, is located near a tributary of the Cimarron River and has been subject to flooding in the past.
Three miles of new paving was completed a few years ago. The new highway work will begin at the point the initial paving ended and extend another three miles to the east.
In other action commissioners approved monthly reports from the offices of sheriff, county clerk, treasurer, election board, assessor, health department, court clerk and court clerk preservation, appropriations for the month of September and the change of Joann Turner from receiving officer to requisitioning officer for the Kingfisher Library.
Five permits for pipeline crossings in District 2 also received approval.
The permittees and locations included:
• K&J Construction – 12inch and three-inch 60-day water lines located four miles south and two miles west of Hennessey.
• Leslie Land Services – eight-inch steel gas line located four miles south and three miles east of Hennessey.
• Mustang Gas Products – three eight-inch permanent gas lines located as follows, two lines located four miles south and two miles east of Hennessey, and a third located three miles south and three miles east of Hennessey.
District 3 Commissioner Heath Dobrovolny, board chairman, reported the county excise board would meet Wednesday and he would attend a meeting of the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma (ACCO) health insurance board later this week.
District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss, vice chairman, joined Shimanek and Dobrovolny in approving the actions.
Also present were County Clerk Jeannie Boevers as minute clerk and County Engineer Nik Smith.
