Dover man killed in stabbing
Suspect found, jailed on manslaughter complaint
An altercation in Dover Friday night left one man dead and another arrested on manslaughter charges.
Pronounced dead inside a home was Ruben Jau of Dover. Arrested later that night was Jorge Maradiago Cruz, 37, who is being held at the Kingfisher County Criminal Justice Center.
Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office was alerted about 9:30 p.m. of an altercation near the convenience store on the south end of Dover.
When deputies arrived, they were flagged down by a woman and taken inside a home at 109 S. Chisholm Trail (U.S. Highway 81/ Main Street).
Once inside, along with Kingfisher EMS, deputies discovered Jau with multiple stab wounds, according to Kingfisher County Sheriff Dennis Banther.
Life-saving measures were administered, but Jau was soon pronounced dead by EMS, Banther said.
After calling for additional units as well as the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for investigative and crime scene assistance, deputies began their search for a suspect.
Banther said one individual reported seeing Cruz “come out (of the home) with blood all over him.”
Banther also said Cruz “made remarks to individuals that he had stabbed someone” before leaving south down the alley from the home.
One witness also stated she saw two individuals walk north down the alley, but only one of them came back south later.
Deputies Chuck Countryman and Jason Wiebelt located Cruz in the wash house at 81 RV Park, according to Banther.
The only ID Cruz possessed was from Honduras, but Banther said Cruz was renting a shed across the alley from the home at which Jau was found.
Search warrants for the home and the shed were executed, Banther added.
Banther said there were two witnesses in the wash house, who said they initially thought Cruz had been in a fight at the bar behind the convenience store. According to Banther, the witnesses said Cruz said “they’re here for me” when they saw deputies in the area.
Banther also stated Cruz “did make an utterance of ‘I stabbed him’ to deputies when they arrested him.”
He said Cruz does speak “broken English.”
The investigation led officers to believe the alleged altercation began “over money,” Banther said.
As of press time, Cruz had not made his initial appearance in Kingfisher County District Court. Banther said while the arrest was made on a manslaughter complaint, the investigation was still ongoing and the district attorney will ultimately decide the charge, which could include second degree homicide.
