A new housing addition is under way in Kingfisher and Mike Matthews and his son, Hayden, of Matthews Properties shared some of the details at a recent Kingfi sher Lions Club meeting.

Located north of the Briscoe Sports Complex and off of 13th and 17th streets, the $23 million project, Hannas Place, will allow for approximately 77 new houses in the area.

With many years of experience in the construction business, Mike said this project will be a little different for his company as they are developing much of the infrastructure themselves.

Currently they are in the process of completing the sewer lines and manholes, which he said are approximately 75 percent complete and will be followed by the addition of waterlines and setting the curbs and property lines.

Most of the homes will be in the range of 1,500 to 1,800 square feet at a cost of about $270,000 each, Mike said.

“What we hope to accomplish with this addition is to provide smaller, affordable, attractive and well-built homes,” he said.

Depending on the weather and other variables, the time-frame to complete construction on a house is about 115 to 120 days, he added.

“By the end of summer we would like to see some houses completed,” Mike added.

In addition to Hannas Place, the father and son duo have also received approval to start construction on a commercial development in Choctaw.

It will include a grocery shopping center, two mini-malls, two restaurants, a gas station and two fast food chains, as well as a residential area consisting of approximately 88 houses behind the commercial development.

Discussing inflation and costs of supplies, Mike commented, “You have to believe in your community to build 77 houses considering the costs of everything.”

“We’re excited and not scared, though…we believe in Kingfisher and know we have the best people here.”
