Hennessey Farmerettes gather for April regular meeting
The Hennessey Farmerettes met April 10 at the Hennessey First Christian Church for its monthly meeting.
Prior to the meeting, members made arts and crafts to donate to the Hennessey Library.
Pansy Wheeler called the meeting to order.
Jamie Akenhead was the lesson leader and Paula Nicholson served as hostess.
Members signed a “thinking of you” card to be sent to member Dot Miller.
Wheeler and Nicholson gave an update about Miller’s health and Akenhead reported that she has two treatments remaining.
The flag salute was given by the group and eight members answered roll call by stating if they walk for exercise.
The devotion “Because God Knows Me” was provided by Mary Curry.
The minutes of the March meeting were read and approved and the treasurer’s report was also given and approved.
Forms were provided for members to document time spent on gardening and flowers they’ve donated.
Curry announced she had aloe vera plants to share with the group.
A report was given regarding the Billie Melendy scholarship fund stating that there were no qualified applicants from Hennessey and more discussion will follow at the next meeting.
Akenhead gave a report regarding the group’s donations to the Kingfisher County 4-H achievement banquet as well as other donations.
Various members discussed the recent district meeting held at Watonga and the sessions they attended.
Suggestions were given regarding the June club outing and a decision will be made at the next meeting.
It was announced the Kingfisher County Fair will be held Aug. 20-23.
Nicholson shared information from the Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) newsletter with the group.
The next meeting will be held at DeDee Krueger’s home.
Akenhead gave the lesson about walkable places in your community.
She discussed the many walkable places available in Hennessey and gave several facts about the benefits of walking.
Members enjoyed a surprise visit from Dot Miller.
The meeting was adjourned.
Refreshments of “dirt cake” was served at the close of the meeting and a selection of flower and vegetables seed were made available for members to take home.
