Hayden Ryel

A Hennessey man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a vehicle accident in Illinois.

Clark County (Ill.) Coroner Jeff Pearce confi rmed to mywabashvalley.com that Hayden Ryel, 20, was the victim in an accident on Interstate 70 between Martinsville, Ill., and Marshall, Ill.

Ryel grew up in Hennessey and was transporting a load to Ohio for a Hennessey-based company, according to a family friend.

He was also in his second year as a member of the Dover Fire Department.

“He was a hard-working young man,” said Dover Fire Chief Jeff Johnson.

“When we went on a fire, he went to work. He was a good kid. He was a little ornery sometimes, but a good kid.

“What I saw of him in fire service, he was a worker. He was greatly appreciated.”

According to a report on wthitv.com, which cited Illinois State Police, the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near mile marker 141 in Clark County.

The report said a semitruck had slowed for a construction zone and the F-350 pickup-truck driven by Ryel crashed into the back of the semi.
