Hennessey town board members approve FY25 budget

By
Barb Walter

The Town of Hennessey will start the 2024-25 fiscal year July 1 with an estimated combined budget of $8.541 million.

That includes $4.117 million in anticipated income, and $4.331 million in expected carryover.

That was discussed, then approved unanimously, by the board of trustees.

The budget is compared to $7.987 million in the current fiscal year.

“Sales and use taxes seem to be holding steady,” Town Administrator Tiffany Tillman told trustees in a written report before the board’s 6 p.m Tuesday, June 11, meeting.

Surplus Property Auction Tillman reported that she is getting lists from department heads of items for a surplus property auction that should be complete by the July or August board meeting.

An online auction worked better than an in-person auction, she said.

New Employees

In Tillman’s monthly administrative report to the board, she listed these two new employees:

• Bobbie Johns, accounts payable and public records clerk, and,

• Regan Sturgill, parks/ streets/cemetery laborer.

Appointments to Other Boards

Trustees approved the following new and re-appointments:

Library Board – Karla Van Gee was re-appointed to a three-year-term; Ginger Cox whose term ends 2025 was also re-appointed as was Ann Taylor whose term will end in 2026. Resignations were received from Leonor Ortega and Karen Vogt and the Library Board will recommend new members.

Planning Board – Megan Choate is a new appointee. Holdover members are Richard Hedrick, Dustin Munroe, Dustin Vinson and Rachel Rogers.

Board of Adjustment – New appointees are Les Cofer, Keri Keel and Megan Choate. Holdover members are Hedrick and Vinson.

All Trustees were present: Mayor Clif Vogt, Vice Mayor Harold Shaw, Bert Gritz, David Jones and Rand Bohnstedt; and other officers, Clerk Kelley Vaverka and Treasurer Shelley Burch.

Staff at the meeting were Tillman and Town Attorney Jared Harrison.
