McCormick to serve time, register as a sex offender

By

A Kingfisher man was sentenced Monday after pleading no contest to multiple felonies, including lewd or indecent proposals to a child.

Among the sentences handed down to James E. McCormick, Jr., by Judge Paul Woodward were multiple 15-year terms to run concurrently and an order for him to register as a sex offender.

McCormick was charged June 9, 2022, with the felony county of lewd or indecent proposals to a child under 16 years old.

Just over a year later, on July 7, 2023, he was charged with seven felony counts of interception of oral communication violation as well as misde- meanor counts of second- degree burglary and protective order violation.

He was also charged that day with a felony count of stalking in violation of a protective order.

McCormick was sentenced to 15 years with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections for the lewd proposals charge. All but the first five years will be suspended.

Also as part of the sentencing, McCormick was ordered to register with the Oklahoma Sex Offender Registry.

He’s also ordered to have no contact with the victim or anyone under 18 years of age, court documents showed.

The stalking violation charge brought a sentence of 15 years as well, with all but the first 10 years suspended.

For the seven felony counts of interception of oral communication violation, he received five years.

The burglary charge brought a seven-year sentence and the protective order violation one year in the county jail.

Documents showed all sentences will run concurrently and McCormick will receive credit for time served.
