Mecklenburg, Charmasson, Fuston retain seats after Tuesday’s voting

Incumbents won three of the five races for various seats in Kingfisher County during last Tuesday’s election.

One of them was in Kingfisher as Kyle Mecklenburg’s re-election bid for a seat on the city commission proved successful.

Mecklenburg defeated challenger Dyamonique McCarty 136-103 (56.9% to 43.1%).

He has served on the commission since July 2020.

“I am very appreciative and humbled to be able to serve a second term as city commissioner,” Mecklenburg said.

Mecklenburg said a lot has been done, but there’s still plenty on the horizon.

“We accomplished a lot of good things in the last four years and I am very excited where we are at today for the future of our city,” he said. “From our strategic planning for our infrastructure, building a new fire station, bringing the K-town Kove back to life, our continued partnering with our fantastic Chamber of Commerce and many other projects we plan on completing in the near future, I’m thankful to be able to serve another four years and be a small part in the success of this wonderful city.”

There will be a new face on the commission, at least for the next year.

Jeff Wittrock was elected to fill a one-year unexpired term on the city commission by defeating Kaci Farrar 133-108 (55.19% to 44.81%).

The seat originally belonged to Geoff Covalt, who defeated Farrar in September 2021.

Covalt was then appointed mayor in August 2023 after Roxie Alexander retired from the position.

Farrar was appointed by commissioners to fill the seat last October until this election.

Wittrock is a department manager of radio frequency and network services at Pioneer Telephone Cooperative.

“Thank you to all the citizens who have trusted me with their vote,” Wittrock said. “I look forward to serving the wonderful community of Kingfisher.”

School board seats in Dover and Hennessey will keep the same occupants.

In Hennessey, Amy Charmasson defeated challenger Doyle Miller 177-33 (84.29% to 15.71%).

Cortney Fuston retained her seat in Dover by defeating challenger Jake Terrell 80-45 (64.0% to 36.0%).

Ryan McIlvain lost his seat on the Okarche Board of Education as challenger John Pinkerton won by a count of 143-61 (70.10% to 29.90%).

Okarche voters also had a proposition on the ballot regarding a 25-year franchise agreement with Oklahoma Natural Gas.

Voters approved the measure 128-41 (75.74%to 24.26%).
