Memory Lane off ers services during holiday
As is their tradition, volunteers with Memory Lane, Inc., will be on hand throughout Memorial Day weekend to provide their brand of service to visitors.
Members will be handing out water and helping visitors to Kingfi sher Cemetery locate graves.
The organization also will be accepting donations to help replace trees along Memory Lane, the treelined stretch of State Highway 33 between 13th Street and the cemetery entrance.
As always, Memory Lane volunteers will provide their assistance from the gazebo that’s located just east of the cemetery entrance.
At least two volunteers will be on hand at the gazebo beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday until 4 p.m. Monday (Memorial Day).
They’ll assist visitors in finding graves of loved ones.
Memory Lane has a large map on an easel that shows the approximate section, lot and plot location of graves.
Visitors are then provided smaller maps to keep. They are marked in order to assist them in finding the grave for which they’re looking.
Volunteers will also assist in finding the grave if it’s needed.
As visitors drive to the cemetery on S.H. 33, they’re driving through the actual tree-lined Memory Lane.
Memory Lane was established by the Men’s and Women’s Garden Clubs in 1942 to honor those who served in any branch of the military.
Through an agreement with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation many years ago, Memory Lane – the group – agreed to manicure all grassy areas, maintain the trees and pick up all trash along the mile section.
Memory Lane pays for the labor to have the section mowed and depends on donations to help fund its efforts.
All donations can be made at the gazebo or mailed to Memory Lane Inc., P.O. Box 21, Kingfisher, OK 73750.
Currently serving on the Memory Lane board are Tabitha Murray, president; Jean Crosswhite, vice president; Beverly Moery, secretary; Karen Kochenower, treasurer; Cody Murray, historian and communications director; Vicky Jech, secretary of Memory gifts; and Tony Stewart, maintenance director.
