Michael stepping down as KUE principal
Resignation letter says career opportunity for husband in Texas ‘too good to pass up’
Three resignations were presented Monday to the Kingfisher Board of Education, including one by an administrator.
Upper Elementary Principal Erin Michael will not be returning to the district next year. She also served as the school district’s curriculum director.
Michael tendered her resignation “with great respect and sadness” but noted her husband was offered a job in the Dallas, Texas, area “that is too good to pass up.”
“He has supported me through my career, graduate school and my administrative journey and now that he has an opportunity to exponentially grow his own potential, it is my turn to support him,” she wrote in her resignation letter.
Michael was hired as assistant high school principal and secondary schools curriculum director prior to the 2021-22 school year. In October 2022, Superintendent David Glover moved Michael into her role at KUE, putting a principal in place at every building in the district. Prior to Kingfisher, Michael taught a variety of subjects at schools in Edmond, Deer Creek and U.S. Grant. “I am grateful for my time in Kingfisher, the relationships I have built and the growth I have expe-rienced, personally, through this experience,” she wrote. “I will hold this community dear to my heart always.”
Glover said he’s currently taking applications for Michael’s replacement and will begin interviews soon.
Also resigning is first grade teacher Michelle Stone, who has taught at Gilmour Elementary since the 2017-18 school year.
“As I reflect on my time here at Kingfisher Public Schools, I find great pride in myself for bringing my family to the community of Kingfisher,” Stone wrote in her resignation letter. “It has been a privilege to be a part of this school district.”
She called her decision to leave “very personal” and said it was not “due to any circumstance within our school district.”
“I love the leadership in my building and I have appreciated her guidance,” Stone said, referring to Gilmour Principal Makylah Tollefson.
Stone said she’s returning to a career field she once enjoyed - that of a flight attendant.
“It brings me great joy to even be offered a career in the aviation industry as I once, many years ago, was a flight attendant and never thought I would have the opportunity to return to a career that truly holds my heart,” she wrote in her resignation letter.
“Again, the people I have had the opportunity to work with here in Kingfisher have been some of the finest,” Stone said. “They will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Also resigning was Nikki Boling, who just earlier in the month was hired as a paraprofessional at Heritage Elementary School.
After an hourlong executive session, board members approved two hires for teaching and two more for support staff.
Brought on board for district maintenance was Brandon Winn while Angela Longacre was approved as a cashier at KUE.
Kayla Meyer will fill the void left by Stone as she was hired as a first grade teacher.
Also approved was Richard Matthews, who will teach history at KHS.
