Sanders to join VIP board of directors

By
Mike Sanders

Victims Impact Panel of Oklahoma (VIP) recently announced the appointment of Mike Sanders as its newest addition to the Board of Directors.

VIP is a state-based 501(c)(3) non-profit and a provider of Victims Impact Panels in Oklahoma for over three decades.

Sanders, of Kingfisher and the current executive director of the Oklahoma Broadband Office, brings a wealth of experience and expertise in legislation and collaboration to VIP, said VIP Executive Director Sean Rose.

Rose pointed out that, prior to his tenure with the OBO, Sanders served six terms in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 2008 to 2020.

During his legislative career, Sanders chaired the House Utilities Committee and Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, served as vice chair of the Human Services Committee and held the position of majority leader.

“Director Sanders’ extensive background serving the people of Oklahoma, combined with his fervent commitment to combat impaired and distracted driving, positions him as an outstanding addition to the governance of our organization,” remarked Rose.

Added Sanders: “I am deeply honored to join the Board of Directors of Victims Impact Panel of Oklahoma and contribute to its crucial mission of ending impaired and distracted driving. With VIP’s longstanding commitment to the people of Oklahoma, I am eager to leverage my experience in public service to further advance the organization’s impactful initiatives. Together, we will strive to make Oklahoma’s roads safer and support those affected by the devastating consequences of impaired driving.”

Sanders’ legislative achievements include championing the modernization of the state’s DUI laws and processes.

Notably, in 2016, he co-authored House Bill 3146, the Impaired Driving Elimination Act (IDEA), alongside Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tem Greg Treat.

Rose commended IDEA as “a significant leap forward for Oklahoma, establishing a robust foundation and modernizing standards that our state critically needed.”

Prior to his career in Oklahoma politics, Sanders held positions of significant responsibility in the White House under President George W. Bush and in senior management roles within the United States Department of Agriculture, specifically in Rural Development and Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS).

Sanders holds an undergraduate degree from Oklahoma Christian University and pursued graduate studies at Georgetown University.

He and his wife, Nellie, have two sons, Davis and Walker.

Sanders’ appointment to the VIP Board of Directors marks a pivotal moment for the organization as it continues its vital mission to end impaired and distracted driving across Oklahoma, added Rose.
