So far, so great for Kingfisher’s Annie Kate

Redwine wins Hefner club championship, advances in national competition

By

Annie Kate Redwine is just about 15 months into her golf journey and it’s already taking her places.

Will that road lead her to Augusta, Ga.? Time will tell.

The 9-year-old daughter of Drew and Lesley Redwine of Kingfisher has won the first two levels of the national Drive, Chip and Putt competition.

Drive, Chip and Putt is a joint initiative of the PGA Tour of America, United States Golf Association and the Masters Tournament.

Golfers compete at local, sub-regional and regional qualifiers in hopes of making their way to Augusta National to compete the week of the Masters Tournament.

Annie Kate is halfway there.

On June 25, she won first place in the girls 7-9 year-old division at the local qualifier at Oakwood Country Club in Enid.

That advanced her to the sub-regional held July 10 at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City.

Just one year ago, Annie Kate was in the same situation.

She was the winner of a local qualifier at Fort Sill Golf Course to land a spot in the sub-regional at Lincoln Park.

Annie Kate finished fourth in 2024, leaving her short of advancing as only the top-two scorers advance to the regional.

At the time, Annie Kate was relatively new to the golf game.

She had played recreationally, but only began to take it seriously in April 2024.

She continued to hone her skills and took part last year in the U.S. Kids Oklahoma City Fall Tour.

That season consisted of eight tournaments in the girls 8-under division.

Annie Kate dominated the tour, winning six of them, including the Tour Championship at the end of the season.

She continued to work on her game through the winter and spring.

One day after winning the local Drive, Chip and Putt event, Annie Kate began play in the Lake Hefner Golf Club Championship in Oklahoma City.

The two-day event consisted of nine holes each day in the girls 11-under division.

The first day saw the golfers compete on the South Course where Annie Kate shot a 39, which is 4-over-par and was a personal best score.

That personal record didn’t last long.

Golfers played the North Course on Day 2 and Annie Kate fired a 1-over-par 37. That included chipping in from the bunker for her first-ever eagle.

Annie Kate’s two-day total of 76 won by two strokes over the club champion from a year ago.

Just about two weeks later, she made the trek to Lincoln Park to compete against 11 other girls in the Drive, Chip and Putt sub-regional.

Her growth in a year was more than apparent.

Competitors get three shots in each category of the competition.

Their drives must land within a 40-yard wide grid to score points and golfers get more points for the length of qualifying drives.

Chips and putts are awarded an increasing number of points for their proximity to the hole. The putts are from increasing distances from the cup on each try.

Annie Kate, who will be a third grader at Kingfi sher Heritage this year, scored 97 total points as she notched 12 points in the driving, 40 in the chipping and 45 in the putting.

Her score won by 21 points, which punched her ticket to the regional tournament.

In fact, Annie Kate’s score would have easily toppled the girls 10-11 yearold division, which was won with 81 points.

The win sends her to Frisco, Texas, the home of the PGA of American headquarters. She’ll be one of 14 competitors at Fields Ranch on Oct. 5 vying for the opportunity to represent the South Central region at the national competition.

That’s held next April during Masters week in Georgia.

The win advanced her to October’s regional round in Frisco, Texas, as she vies for a spot at the national fi nals in Augusta, Ga. Redwine also proved she can drive, chip and putt in an actual golf tournament this summer by winning her division at the Lake Hefner Golf Club Championship. [Photos provided]
