Transource Oklahoma to host local open houses for electric transmission project

By

Transource Oklahoma LLC – a partnership between American Electric Power (AEP) and Evergy – is planning to build approximately 40 miles of 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission line between Luther and Piedmont.

The Mathewson-Redbud Transmission Line Project is expected to cost about $75 million and deliver an estimated $138 to $225 million in cost savings to customers across the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) region, which includes Oklahoma, according to SPP.

In spring 2025, SPP awarded the project to Transource Oklahoma through a competitive bid process and mandated the project to be in service by late 2027 to meet the area’s power demand.

Transource Oklahoma is currently evaluating potential route options for the proposed electric transmission line and invites community members in the project area to attend an open house to learn more, view detailed maps, visit with project team members and share feedback.

Community members may attend at any time during the open house hours.

The come-and-go style events allow community members to speak to project team members and review maps of their property near the project area.

The same information will be available at each event.

The open houses are scheduled for:

• Tuesday, Dec. 9, 4 to 7 p.m., Cashion Public Schools Cafeteria, 101 N. Euclid Ave., Cashion, OK 73016

• Wednesday, Dec. 10, 4 to 7 p.m., Logan County Fairgrounds (Logan County OSU Extension building), 215 Fairgrounds Road, Guthrie, OK 73044 The project requires a Certificate of Authority (COA) from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC).

Transource Oklahoma plans to file the COA application in spring 2026, followed by additional open houses.

Pending approval, construction is expected to begin in late 2026 and conclude by late 2027.
