Veterans will receive hundreds of care items from Farmerettes

The Hennessey Farmerettes met in the home of Margie McConnell for its monthly meeting on Sept. 12, with 10 members attending.

President Pansy Wheeler called the meeting to order, followed by members reciting the pledge to the American flag and a reading of the Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) creed.

Chaplain Mary Curry gave the devotional “Grace Now.”

Members answered roll call by telling of their favorite outdoor activity.

Minutes of the last month’s meeting were read and the treasurer’s report was given.

Paperwork was provided for members to document their volunteer hours and donations.

Members discussed their participation as a club and individual members in the Kingfisher County Free Fair. Ribbons of a variety of colors were earned at the fair and displayed along with pictures of the entries.

A special place was set up at the meeting to display items members brought to share with U.S. veterans.

A veteran was present for the meeting and a total of 800-1,000 items will be donated to a veterans’ home.

Members discussed information from the newsletter and Cheryl McClendon gave a report on the memorial fund.

The group will host the district meeting in 2025.

Members will gather at the First United Methodist Church for the October meeting and the First Christian Church for the November meeting, both in Hennessey, and a December trip for the group was tabled.

Dot Miller provided a report on the Reality Check program for Kingfisher County sophomores and seniors.

Kathy Patocka gave the lesson “Nature and You,” in which members also participated.

The meeting was adjourned.

Wheeler won the quarter drill.

Prior to the meeting, members assembled craft items for children at the Hennessey Public Library.
