Xavier Ridenour missed his first two free throws in last Friday night’s game at Elk City.

The next 12, however, were nothing but pure.

Ridenour got a dozen of his game-high 20 points at the charity stripe, half of which came during a pivotal fourth-quarter stretch, as KHS stayed unbeaten with a 46-31 victory over the Elks.

The win moved KHS to 7-0 on the season and - for the third time since the end of the 2017 season - the program has gone one full calendar year without a loss.

The Jackets last lost on Dec. 12, 2020, to Edmond Memorial. They won 20 straight to close last season and seven more this year.

Most recently, Kingfisher went undefeated beginning Dec. 29, 2018, through March 6, 2020. That win streak spanned 47 games over two seasons.

There was also a 34-game streak from Feb. 25, 2017, through March 20, 2018. Elk City did its best to keep the Jackets from extending their current streak.

Coach Sam Stephens’ team entered with a 1-3 record, but held KHS without a field goal until the 1:17 mark of the first quarter, one in which the Jackets managed only four points.

They picked up steam in the second and third quarters, but still only led the Elks by nine points with just under 6:00 to play.

That’s when the game turned.

Ridenour was fouled and knocked to the floor on the sideline by the Elks’ Cooper Patton, who then stepped over the fallen Yellowjacket.

The personal foul was compounded with a technical.

Ridenour made all four free throws before KHS once again received possession due to the technical.

The Elks fouled Caden Kitchens and although he missed both free throws, Ridenour rebounded the second and was fouled on the putback.

With just under 5:20 left, Ridenour sank both.

In one trip down the floor, Kingfisher’s lead had swelled to an insurmountable 40-25.

Ridenour made all 10 of his fourth quarter free throw attempts.

That helped offset a subpar shooting performance by the Jackets that saw them hit on just 33 percent (12 of 37) of their shots.

Elk City was statistically better from the field, but the Elks turned it over 20 times, which led to 16 KHS points.

Overall, KHS was 18 of 25 from the free throw line while Elk City had just 13 attempts total.

Chase Davis did his part to help the shooting percentage.

He was 3 of 4 en route to his 10 points.

Kitchens scored six and led KHS with six rebounds.
