Loss at Bridge Creek closes door on KHS season
Lady Jackets finish year at 14-19, miss playoffs
Kingfisher’s fastpitch softball season came to an end one day sooner than originally scheduled.
The Lady Jackets were defeated 6-3 Monday at Bridge Creek.
The team was supposed to conclude its season on the road Tuesday in Alva, but that game was ultimately canceled.
Monday’s loss gave KHS an overall record of 14-19.
Its 2-12 mark in District 4A-4 games kept it out of the playoffs.
Bridge Creek finished at 6-8 and in a three-way tie for fourth place.
After staking a 1-0 lead after an inning, Bridge Creek posted five runs in the second.
The Lady Bobcats got five hits and capitalized on a pair of KHS errors to build the 6-0 advantage.
Kingfisher made its charge in the top of the fourth as Mya Dewberry and Addyson Wilson reached with back-to-back singles.
They scored on Gentry Taylor’s double and Taylor later scored on Emma Lukasek’s RBI single.
However, Kingfisher’s threat soon ended and the Lady Jackets couldn’t muster another run.
Merrin Evans went the distance for KHS.
She gave up 11 hits and five earned runs.
Dewberry had three of Kingfisher’s 10 hits.
Willson and Taylor had two apiece.
