Kingfisher County voters will receive a single, two-sided ballot to decide candidates and issues in tomorrow's general election. Voters residing within the Kingfisher city limits will receive a second, separate ballot on the city's Capital Improvement sales tax initiative.

Polls across the state open at 7 a.m. Tuesday, November 3 for Election Day voting.The State Election Board says this is a unique election year for many reasons – the pandemic, a recent ice storm, and a surge in voter registration numbers.

With sunny skies, temperatures reaching the balmy mid 60s and not a speck of ice in sight Friday, the Shocktober ice storm is already a distant memory. As long as you don’t look at the mounds of tree limbs and debris scattered in nearly every yard and field.

Beware of the years with 2s and 0s. While Kingfisher County has seen intervening ice storms, last week’s October surprise had everyone hearkening back to the last, worst event in recent memory – the January 2002 storm that left some residents without power for more than a month.

Kingfisher City Manager Dave Slezickey was the guest speaker of the Kingfisher Lions Club last Thursday to explain the priorities for the proposed 1/3-cent sales tax that will be voted on by Kingfisher residents this Tuesday.

The pumpkins were ready to pick and the Kingfisher 4-H members were excited to harvest their club garden, which is sponsored by the Kingfisher County Conservation District. The pumpkin picking took part during the club’s meeting on Sept. 13.

Kingfisher County Retired Educators will meet this week - and in a new meeting place. The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Kingfisher Farm Bureau office at 117 W. Sheridan. Roxie Alexander, Kingfisher mayor, will be the speaker.

The following traffic accidents are being investigated by the Kingfisher Police Department: October 18, 12:43 a.m. - At 1309 S. Main St. Rory Parker, 53, Kingfisher, driving a 2007 Mazda, was northbound on U.S. 81.
