Members of the 2020 Hennessey football team are keeping their fingers crossed that they’ll be able to celebrate homecoming Thursday, Oct. 15. They’ve been sidelined due to COVID-19 for the past two games. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. against Chisholm with coronation ceremonies at 6:30 p.m.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma announced today it will take further action to support its members, customers, and communities during the COVID-19 public health emergency by providing approximately $20 million in relief to fully insured employer customers in the form of a premium credit.

The new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available, and colleges, universities and career tech schools are encouraging prospective 2021 students to fill it out as soon as possible.

FIRE HYDRANT GRAVEYARD — The city of Kingfisher is in the process of replacing 19 of its aging fire hydrants, a project expected to be completed this week. Commissioners approved the updates at their September monthly meeting.

The Kingfisher Board of Education adjusted its “Return to Learn” to allow for less stringent protocols while still following guidelines of health officials and stressing safety for both students and staff, said the district’s top administrator.

KINGFISHER HIGH SCHOOL’S annual homecoming parade was held in downtown Kingfisher last Friday. Some of the parade entrants included the Pride of Kingfisher marching band (top two photos) as well as students past and present.

Repairs to the track at the Kingfisher Public Schools walking complex is expected to keep it out of commission for the rest of this month. Kingfisher Superintendent Jason Sternberger told school board members at their meeting on Monday that the repairs are expected to begin Monday, Oct. 12.

County commissioners on Monday made quick work of a brief agenda during their regular weekly meeting. The trio unanimously approved a contract with Turn Key Health Clinics of Oklahoma City to provide medical staffing and related administrative services for the county jail.
