They had to sweat it out until the very end, but the Dover Longhorns on Thursday managed to grab their first win of this fall baseball season. After building a comfortable lead, the Longhorns held on in the top of the seventh to down Mulhall-Orlando 5-3 at home. The win upped their mark to 1-3.

The Kingfisher Police Department has investigated or responded to the following reports: August 6 - Identity theft. Officer Dustin Brodrick took a report of identity theft. Stephen Powers reportedly stated a fraudulent unemployment claim had been filed in his name. August 7 - DUI-Liquor or drugs.

Kingfisher Public Schools officials were hoping they’d receive some extra time before the inevitable happened. They didn’t get their wish. It was confirmed Monday that a second teacher at Kingfisher Heritage School – the district’s third and fourth grade center – had tested positive for COVID-19.

The Hennessey Clipper observed its 130th anniversary this year, and apparently it’s the last anniversary as a weekly newspaper.

Kingfisher County commissioners Monday approved a recommendation to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation that Circuit Engineering District 8 serve as consulting engineer for a bridge over Turkey Creek southwest of Hennessey in District 2.

Property west of U.S. Highway 81 and north of State Highway 51 in Hennessey was rezoned to highway commercial last week after two public hearings on the change. The property, owned by Scott Hajek, has been used for agriculture, and includes 25.76 acres north and west of the Dollar General store.

Communities Foundation of Oklahoma recently announced 580 students will receive scholarships for the 2020-2021 school year, with total new awards exceeding $1.3 million. In total, CFO has more $3.3 million in scholarships earmarked for students through 2024.

The Kingfisher Police Ladies’ Auxiliary has begun its fundraiser for the second annual “Christmas With a Cop.” The KPLA is currently taking orders for t-shirts and the sales from those will benefit local children and their families this holiday season (See advertisement on Page 2 of this edition).

Pioneer Telephone Cooperative, Inc. will celebrate 67 years in business this month with its annual “Customer Appreciation Week.” Pioneer’s “All About You” special promotions this month will be offered during the week of Monday, Aug. 24 through Friday, Aug. 28.

Three Kingfisher residents received degrees during Oklahoma Baptist University’s spring commencement held Saturday, Aug. 1, on the south lawn of Raley Chapel on the OBU campus in Shawnee. United States Senator James Lankford delivered the address.
