A thunderstorm brought welcome showers to Kingfisher Friday morning. The system bringing the moisture spread from the north across the county, depositing .9 inch of rain by Noon.

The nearest election is just over a week away and Kingfisher County Election Board Secretary Shawna Butts is providing information and tips for those planning to visit the polls. Voters will cast ballots Tuesday, June 30.

Hennessey School Superintendent Dr. Mike Woods said school will start Aug. 6 as “normal as we can” and “provide proper precautions” due to the COVID-19 virus. “As we all know, the numbers are going up,” Woods said in his announcement this week.

The board of directors for the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) selected Kingfisher County Health Department as a grantee for the next round of the TSET Healthy Living Program during their quarterly board meeting in May. The award in the first year of the grant is up to $175,000.

COVID-19 has taken a tremendous toll on the blood supply and Oklahoma Blood Institute has an immediate need for eligible blood donors. Oklahoma Blood Institute is hosting a blood drive with “Battle of the Banks” in Kingfisher on Thursday, June 25. The drive will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) began taking online applications June 16 for summer cooling assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
