Kingfisher Public Schools will begin its Grab-n-Go meal program this week. The program is for any child age 18 or younger. “And the child doesn’t have to be a student enrolled at Kingfisher Public Schools” said Kingfisher Superintendent Jason Sternberger.

School districts across the state performed surveys recently to better help them prepare for the distance learning initiative that will begin this week. While the data had to be provided to the state Department of Education, school officials also needed it in order to map out their own plans.

Kingfisher Fire Chief Tony Stewart recently swore in six new firefighters who completed their mandatory one year probationary period. They include Blaise Withrow, Dawson Williams, Jonathan Willman, Justin Houck, Kelby Benda and Tyler Girard.

The Kingfisher Board of Education will gather in-person Monday for its April regular meeting, but will still be taking necessary health precautions. Soon after the meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Cashion Elementary School recently achieved the prestigious honor of being named a Great Expectations Model School. “The school is truly a shining star in the community, state, and nation. The staff and faculty are to be highly commended for their efforts.

Morgan Snowden has been announced as the winner of the 2020 John A. Francis Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually by the Kingfisher Rotary Club to assist a current college student with qualified educational expenses.

Online classes for Hennessey students will start Monday, April 6, due to COVID-19, Superintendent Dr. Mike Woods said after the school board waived a policy so staffers are now allowed to contact students electronically.

The Altrua Club met Feb. 19 at the Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher. President Cheryl Wheelbarger conducted the meeting and served as hostess.

Attorney General Mike Hunter last week issued a warning about potential fraud to Oklahomans awaiting their economic impact payments from the federal government. The economic impact payments are part of the $2.2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Kingfisher High School seniors Jentry Squires and Coltyn Young have been announced as the Junior Lions for April 2020. Squires is the daughter of Mark and Jona Squires. She’s a member of the National Honor Society, Oklahoma Honor Society, FCA, student council and FFA.
