THE AMERICAN FLAG flown at KHS football stadium by the Kingfisher Fire Department will have even more significance this week when Kingfisher and Hennessey teams honor military service men and women and veterans at Freedom Football Night, sponsored by the Warriors for Freedom Foundation.

Second thoughts from one commissioner after a unanimous vote last month to amend Kingfisher’s parking ordinance triggered a lengthy debate at Monday night’s city commission meeting when the issue was revisited.

Food, entertainment and prizes are in store for Cimarron Electric Cooperative members who attend the annual meeting Thursday night at the Kingfisher County Fairground Exhibit Building. Doors open at 5 p.m. and a free barbecue dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.

With the fate of a potential seventh and eighth grade center looming with the next day’s bond election, Kingfisher’s board of education on Monday night was business as usual at its regular September meeting.

It’s time to kick off football season and the Bedlam Blood Battle, featuring your favorite coaches on new Bedlam-themed t-shirts, free for Oklahoma Blood Institute blood donors. Healthy adults, age 16 and older, can give blood at one of the following drives: • Mercy Hospital Kingfisher, 1-5 p.m.

Tristion Armstrong, Joseph Harris, Zavior Leniger and Bryce Hawk were guests last week of the Kingfisher Rotary Club. The four are seniors this year at Kingfisher High School. Armstrong is the son of Leslie Armstrong. He is active in band and plans to be a video/movie designer.

State Reps. Zack Taylor, Lundy Kiger and Randy Randleman are hosting two interim studies this week to look at several aspects of charter school funding.A third study, hosted by Kiger and Randleman, will focus on charter school sponsor oversight responsibilities.
