Opaa!, which stands for “Hurrah” in Greek, won the bid to provide food service at the Hennessey Public School this fall. That’s what the Hennessey board decided as members munched on sandwiches and cookies from a local restaurant during their noon Wednesday special meeting.

Three major policy changes were approved Tuesday by the Kingfisher Board of Education. The board made the moves during their final meeting of the 2018-19 fiscal year and they will affect lunches, credits and free passes to sporting events. The school credits will involve athletics.

State Rep. Mike Sanders was notified last week that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Oklahoma is offering special Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) funding for “Cover Crop” for landowners impacted by recent flooding.

Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) groups from Emmanuel Lutheran of Kingfisher, St. John Lutheran of Okarche and Our Savior Lutheran of Guthrie recently traveled to Mobile, Ala., for the national convention.

Chisholm Trail Museum’s second annual ice cream social can be deemed a success. More than 71 people attended the event at Gov. Seay Mansion last Saturday. It hosted 45 people a year ago. “We started the event last year as a way to engage with the community,” said museum director Jason Harris.

Relatives of the late Will and Sally Jones held a family reunion June 22 at the Masonic Lodge in Kingfisher. Family members provided a potluck dinner after a prayer by Sue Parks. Kingfisher members hosted the event. The next reunion will be notified to members at a later date.

Safe BOOM Fireworks are a staple for Fourth of July celebrations in the U.S. The thrill of fireworks, however, can be dangerous. On average, 230 people visit the emergency room every day with fireworks-related injuries in the weeks around July 4.

UPDATE: ALL CLEAR — As of 2:34 p.m. Tuesday, the state Department of Environmental Quality lifted the boil order for the City of Kingfisher's municipal water supply, declaring it once again safe for human consumption.

Kingfisher County commissioners approved detour routes for two roads due to bridge damage (District 1) or work to repair flood damaged roads (District 2) at their weekly meeting Monday. The Phillips Bridge on Lemon Road in District 1 has been closed for all traffic due to recent flood damage.
