The Kingfisher Lions Club has recently announced Bridget Keast as its May Silver Spade winner. Keast’s yard and flowerbeds contain an assortment of trees and flowers, including hydrangeas and azaleas.

The Oklahoma Blood Institute has four blood drives planned in Kingfisher County during the first 10 days of June. Scheduled blood drives are: • June 3 at First Christian Church of Kingfisher, 102. S. 7th St., 1:30-5 p.m. • June 4 at Countrywood Assisted Living Center, 1604 S. 13th St.

The Okarche High School seniors celebrated their baccalaureate services Sunday, May 19, in the OHS gym. Speakers for the evening included, from left: Dr.

Troy Louis Wilczek, son of Stanley and Cindy Wilczek, graduated May 18 from Langston University with a doctorate in physical therapy. A 2012 graduate of Lomega High School, he earned his bachelor’s in health education and promotion from Oklahoma State University prior to pursuing his doctorate.

Hennessey kindergarten Students of Today at the Early Childhood Development Center for 2019 are Charlee Walker and Wade Worthan. They were presented their awards May 10 by Mason Jack Painter. The students were chosen for their good citizenship and willingness to help others.

Madelyn Anne Gerken of Kingfisher, currently a student at Oklahoma State University, has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the National Livestock Companies consisting of National Livestock Credit Corporation and National Livestock Commission Association.

Okarche High School has announced the March, April and May Students of the Month. The Student of the Month program is designed to promote success in and out of the classroom. For a student to be a well-respected citizen, they must be able to balance many different areas of life.

With a budget agreement officially announced, common education is set to receive $157.5 million in additional appropriated funding for the upcoming fiscal year. This $157.5 million is coming after the $465 million in increased appropriations from last year’s legislative session.

House Democrats decried portions of this year’s budget plan on Thursday, but then voted for bills they said either provided insufficient funding or mis-spent money.
